Current position Application Developer, EPCC, University of Edinburgh. I work on the OGSA-DAI project. I keep a little blog on technical stuff I come across.

Previous work

I used to be a computer system administrator and tutor at African Virtual University, Addis Ababa Learning Center based in Addis Ababa University (AAU).
I have carried out a number of side projects during my stay at AAU. One work of mine that I have documentation on is the suite of programs that I developed for the physics laboratory at AAU.

School and research stuff

My MSc thesis, From Mixtures to Mixing. It is machine learning stuff.
The data mining project that I carried out on insurance data. I am interested in mining datasets that are related to Ethiopia (eg. agricultural data, clinical data). I'm happy to hear from potential collaborators. See my dataset links to see online datasets that I have discovered online.
Mutex is a product of my undergraduate project together with my project partner Tadesse Kebede.

Dec 2009 Finally got a break to start blogging again.
May 2009 Developed an an Eclipse plugin, eclipseant2dot, for visualizing ant files.
Ertale No, not Ertale the volcanoe but the website that "the team" is trying to get off the ground (do let me know if you plan to visit Ertale the volcanoe though!).
Presentation on two AI methods I made a talk on AI methods at Computer Science Department, Addis Ababa University. The first part was on Reinforcement learning and application on Robot navigation. Find the slides here. The second part was on Naive Bayes and application on spam classification. Find slides here and the weka files that I used for demonstration here. I've also written an implementation of Naive Bayes. I provide two datasets: "Rainy" data explained in the slides and a real world email data so you can see how it is applied for spam classification.
